Washington Mills Building #1
Washington Mills, Lawrence
Washington Mills Building #1 was a vacant 200,000 SF 1880s mill property in Lawrence’s Canal District.
A municipal zoning overlay change allowed residential reuse of the Washington Mills complex for the first time. The project team adapted Building #1 into 155 loft-style apartments, 90% market rate and 10% Affordable, using Historic Tax Credits and other sources. These units were the first new market-rate multi-family units built in Lawrence in 20 years.
Loryn held project management responsibilities for financing and funding as well as participating in the programming and planning and overall senior leadership team.
The project earned an Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
